How to assign points for a dropdown question?

A screening survey in Google Forms often has no right answers, only Yes and No in a dropdown, and the result is how many times someone said yes. A Google Forms quiz needs a correct answer for every question, so it can't count those answers into a score. That leaves you counting each response by hand or writing a formula in the Sheet afterwards. With Formfacade, you give each choice in a dropdown question its own points, 1 for Yes and 0 for No, and the score is worked out while the form is being filled in. You can then show a different result for each score range, so people know what their number means.

Let's start. Create your form and follow the steps below.

Your form now has a Score question and the same points on every multiple choice question. The steps below give each question its own points.
Let's change this form into a simple survey to assess gaming addiction. The questions are based on diagnostic criteria for addictive gambling behavior. If a user answers "yes" to six or more of these questions, then they most likely have an addiction to video games. If a user answers "yes" to five or fewer questions, they may have a problem.
  • Click on a question and change it to Dropdown in the list of question types. Enter your question, with Yes and No as the answer choices. Do this for each question and delete the questions you do not need.

Assign Points

You can assign different points for answer choices in dropdown, multiple choice, checkbox, linear scale & grid questions. You have to repeat these steps to assign points for all the questions in your form.
  • In the Edit page, click on the question, then click on the gear icon.
The Gaming addiction survey on the EDIT tab with a dropdown question selected and EDIT, the question and the gear at the bottom of its card marked
  • Click Answer. Assign points for the different answer choices and click Save.
The Answer tab with Assign points for each choice, Yes = 1 and No = 0 and Answer, the first points box and Save marked
Click on "Share" tab, copy the link and open it to fill the form. The Score changes as you answer. When you submit, you will see "Your total score is" followed by your score.

Summary

When a dropdown question has no right answer, a Google Forms quiz can't turn the answers into a score. With Formfacade, you assign points to each answer choice in the dropdown and the score is calculated as people fill in the form. Create your form and complete the steps above.
