How to assign points for linear scale question?

"How do I assign points in Google Form to a liner scale question?"- Google Docs Editors Community

How do you give points to a linear scale question in Google Forms? 363 people on Google's forum have asked it on the thread above. A linear scale records the number someone picked, but a Google Forms quiz only marks it right or wrong, so it can't add the answers up or make one end of the scale count more than the other. Most people end up with a spreadsheet formula and a total nobody sees until later. With Formfacade, you give each number on the scale its own points, the standard 0 to 10 or your own weights, and the form adds them into a score as people answer. They see it before they submit, and you can sync the score to Google Sheets beside their answers.

Let's start. Create your form and follow the steps below.

How to assign points and calculate scores using Formfacade?

  • On the page that opens, name your form, click Create form and click Proceed.
The tabs Edit, Preview, Share and Responses, with Edit marked
  • In the Assign points dialog, under "How do you want to set up scoring?", select "Assign points manually" and click Proceed.
The Assign points dialog asking How do you want to set up scoring?, with Assign points manually and Proceed marked
  • Pick Multiple choice as the question type to score, assign points to its choices and click Next. The same points go to every multiple choice question in your form.
The step To which questions would you like to allocate points?, with Multiple choice picked, points for Rarely, Weekly and Daily and Next marked
  • Under "How do you want to show the score?", leave both options ticked and click Next.
  • Click the × on "You're all set" to go back to the "Edit" tab.
The Assign points dialog saying You're all set! Score calculation is enabled, with Preview form
Your form now has a Score question and the same points on every multiple choice question. The steps below give each question its own points.
Let's change this form into the P4 questionnaire to measure the pain intensity. The P4 consists of 4 items that address pain intensity in the morning, afternoon, evening and with activity over the past 2 days. Each item is scored on an 11-point numeric scale.
We will use a linear scale question that starts from 0 and ends on 10. The end points of the linear scales can be named to provide a reference for the users. 0 = No pain, 10 = Worst imaginable pain
  • Click on a question and change it to Linear scale in the list of question types. Set it from 0 to 10 and enter No pain and Worst imaginable pain as the two labels. Do this for all the 4 items and delete the questions you do not need.
  • In the Edit page, click on the linear scale question, then click on the gear icon.
The P4 questionnaire on the EDIT tab with a linear scale question selected and EDIT, the question and the gear at the bottom of its card marked
  • Click Answer. Assign points for the different answer choices and click Save. Do this for all the 4 items.
The Answer tab with Assign points for each choice from 0 to 10 and Answer, the first points box and Save marked
Click on "Share" tab, copy the link and open it to fill the form. The Score changes as you answer. When you submit, you will see "Your total score is" followed by your score.

Summary

Google Forms records each linear scale answer but can't turn the answers into a score in the form. With Formfacade, you assign points or weights to each number on the scale and the score is calculated as people fill in the form. Create your form and complete the steps above.
